Radioaktivni otpad je naziv za tipove otpada koji sadrže radioaktivne kemijske elemente bez ikakve praktučne primjene. On je ponekad proizvod nuklearnih procesa, kao što je nuklearna fisija. Većina radioaktivnog otpada je "otpad niskog stupnja", što znači ima niske razine radioaktivnosti u odnosu na masu i volumen. Ovaj tip otpada se često sastoji od korištene zaštitne odjeće, koja je samo neznatno kontaminirana ali ipak opasna u slučaju radioaktivne kontaminacije ljudskog tijela kroz hranu, inhalaciju, apsorpciju ili injekciju.
