Epimeraze i racemaze su izomeraze koje katalizuju inverziju stereohemije u biološkim molekulima.[1] Racemaze katalizuju stereohemijsku inverziju asimetričnog atoma ugljenika u supstratu sa samo jednim centrom asimetrije. Epimeraze katalizuju stereohemijsku inverziju konfiguracije asimetričnog ugljenika u supstratu koji ima više od jednog centra simetrije, i stoga interkonvertuju epimere.
Ljudske epimeraze obuhvataju metilmalonil-CoA epimerazu, koja učestvuje u metaboličkom razlaganju aminokiselina izoleucina, metionina i valina, i UDP-glukoza 4-epimeraza, koja se koristi u krajnjem koraku metabolizma galaktoze - katalizuje reverzibilnu konverziju UDP-galaktoze u UDP-glukozu.
