Ribozimi su molekuli RNK koji imaju sposobnost katalizatora biohemijskih procesa, odnosno funkcionišu kao enzimi. Otkrili su ih, radeći potpuno nezavisno jedan od drugog, Sidni Altman i Tomas Ceh i 1989. godine za to dobili Nobelovu nagradu. Do tada se verovalo da su enzimi po svojoj hemijskoj prirodi isključivo proteini, a nukleinske kiseline pasivni unutarćelijksi nisioci gena. Zahvaljujući radu ova dva hemičara uspostavljena je nova naučna oblast RNK-enzimologija.
