Philo Taylor Farnsworth (19. august 1906 – 11. mart 1971) bio je američki inženjer, pronalazač i pionir televizije.[2] Iako je zaslužan za mnoga otkrića u ranom razvoju elektronske televizije, najpoznatiji po pronalasku prvog funkcionalnog i potpuno electronskog uređaja za preuzimanje slike (cijev video kamere), tzv. "disektor slike", a koji je predstavljao prvi funkcionalni i potpuno elektronski televizijski sistem, odnosno po tome što je prvi takav sistem demonstrirao u javnosti.[3][4] Farnsworth je svoj televizijski sistem razvio zajedno sa prijemnicima i kamerama koje je komercijalno proizvodio u poduzeću Farnsworth Television and Radio Corporation od 1938. do 1951.[5][6]
Farnsworth je u kasnijim godinama razvio i minijaturni uređaj za nuklearnu fuziju, tzv. Farnsworth–Hirschov fuzor ili, jednostavno "fuzor", koji je koristio inercijalno elektrostatičko zadržavanje (IEC). Iako nije bio praktičan za stvaranje nuklearne energije, fuzor danas služi kao vrijedni izvor neutrona.[7] Farnsworth je imao 165 patenata uglavnom na polju radija i televizije.
