Luc Foisneau, rođen je u Bloisu 30. marta 1963., francuski je filozof, s istraživačkim fokusom na suvremenu i rano modernu političku misao. Direktor je istraživanja pri Centre national de la recherche scientifique (CNRS), član je Centre Raymon Aron, a predaje na École des hautes études en sciences sociales (EHESS).[1]

Bivši je student École normale supérieure (Fontenay-St Cloud), doktorat je stekao na Paris 1 - Panthéon-Sorbonne a habilitirao je (HDR) na École des hautes études en sciences sociales. Od 1993-1995 član je Centre de philosophie politique et juridique, na Univerzitetu u Caenu, od 1995.-2003. član je Centre d'histoire de la philosophie moderne. 2003 pridružio se Departmanu za politiku i međunarodne odnose na Sveučilištu u Oxfordu gdje je svoja istraživanja provodio u okviru Maison Française do 2006. Također, predavao je na Sciences Po u Parizu od 1993. do 2003.

Teme istraživanja[uredi | uredi kod]

Usprkos Hobbesovoj reputaciji kao znamenitog ateista, Foisneau je doktorirao na pojmu apsolutne moći Boga u političkoj teoriji Thomasa Hobbesa. Analizirao je nedovoljno istražen pojam moći u odnosu na temeljna moralna i politička načela iznesena u Levijatanu.[2] 2001. godine u Parizu je nagrađen s Prix de l'association des professeurs et maîtres de conférences de Sciences Po. Prepoznat je kao svjetski stručnjak za djelo Thomasa Hobbesa, čije je radove uređivao i prevodio na francuski jezik.[3] Foisneau je također posvetio petnaest godina istraživanja odnosu teorija suverenosti i teorija vladavine kao jednom od temeljnih aspekata moderne političke misli.[4] Nakon toga je svoju pažnju usmjerio na djelo Johna Rawlsa, posebice na način na koji su ranomoderne ugovorne teorije ponovno primijenjene i transformirane u rolsijanskoj tradiciji teorije pravednosti.[5] Posebno se usredotočio na istraživanje snažnog utjecaja kojeg je ideje opravdanja izvršila na transformaciju teorija moderne demokracije.[6] Od 2001. do 2015. Foisneau je radio kao urednik enciklopedije francuskih filozofa i njihovih mreža u sedamnaestom stoljeću, u kojemu je sudjelovalo 167 istraživača. Englesko izdanje enciklopedije je objavljeno 2008., pod nazivom Dictionary of Seventeenth-Century Philosophers (Rječnik francuskih filozofa sedamnaestog stoljeća). [7] Prošireno francusko izdanje je objavljeno 2015. pod nazivom Dictionnaire des philosophes français du XVIIe siècle: acteurs et réseaux de savoir.
