This set of images was gathered by User:Dcoetzee from the National Portrait Gallery, London website using a special tool. All images in this batch have been confirmed as author died before 1939 according to the official death date listed by the NPG.

Descriptive Sketch
of the PRINT
of The Death of Gen:Sir Ralph Abercrombie.

The centre of the Print represents the Commander in Chief immediately after the Battle of the 21st of March supported on a litter, between Surgeon Gillham & Asst Surgeon Fearon. While Mr Gittham is binding up the fatal wound in the General's thigh, Col. Abercrombie is directing his gallant Father's attention towards the French, who are seen flying before the British in all directions. Col. Murray, Cap. Sutton, Lt Col. Kemp, Sir T. Dyer & Col. Turner form a group behind.

The principal officers in the foreground of the right of the print are Gen. Sir E. Coote, resting upon the carriage of a gun, conversing with Col. Dalrymple, Gen. Stuart, Cap. Walsh, Sir R. Willson, Col. Duncan, Cap. Wright, Lt Col. Stewart, Col. Stuart, & Major Birch. In the background are Gen. Moore, Gen Oakes, Lord Hutchinson, & Gen. Sir J. Craddock on horseback. Lt Col. Ogilvy & Brig. Maj. Sl Pearne lie killed.

The group to the left represents Gen. Hope, severely wounded, in conversation with Cap. Rubelau, Brig. Maj. Carey & Gen. Lawson; on the right are Sir S. Smith wounded in the arm, Col. Paget & Lord Blaney; on horseback Gen. Doyle & Col. Spencer. behind whom stand Captns Lovelace & Maxwell; Col. Anstruther, Brig. Maj. Doyle, Gen. Sudlow, Cap. Lowe, & Maj. G. Finch appear on the left.

In the distance are seen the City of Alexandria & ruins of the old City, the Pharos, Pharillon, Forts Caffarelli & Chrètien, Pompey's Pillar & a Mosque.

Pedant que Mr. Gillham panse la blessure mortelle du Général, Le Coll. Abercrombie attire l'attention de son Pere vers les François qui fuyent de tout part. Le Coll. Murray, le Captne. Sutton, le Lieutt. Colonel Kemp, Sir Thomas Dyer, et le Colonel Turner forment un groupe derriere le Général.

Le Genl. Sir E. Coote reposant sur un affut de canon est en conversation avec le Général Datrymple, le Genl. Stuart, le Captne. Walsh, Sir R. Willson, le Coll. Duncan, le Captne Wright, le Lieutt.
