Ugarit (moderno nalazište Ras Shamra رأس شمرة; što znači "vrh divljeg anisa" na arapskom) bio je drevni kozmopolitski lučki grad, smješten na mediteranskoj obali današnje Sirije nekoliko kilometara sjeverno od suvremenog grada Latakia. Ugarit je plaćao danak Egiptu i održavao trgovačke i diplomatske odnose s Ciprom (zvani Alashiya), što je dokumentirano u arhivama pronađenim na nalazištu i potvrđeno s ostacima mikenske i ciparske grnčarije.
