@Orijentolog: here's the scanned original of the allegory with the title "La Barbarie et Le Choléra-Morbus Entrant en Europe. Les Polonais se battent, les puissances font des protocoles et la France..." ("Barbarism and Cholera enter Europe. Polish people fight, the powers make the protocols and France..."). What does your reference claims the full title is? --Turaids (razgovor) 21:51, 29 mart 2019 (CET)[odgovori]

@Turaids: It doesn't matter what title says, because it's a primary source. My reference is a secondary source and speaks of the motif of barbarian invasion. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 22:24, 29 mart 2019 (CET)[odgovori]
@Orijentolog: The title matters much more than some speculation of a secondary source. Have you heard of neutral point of view? --Turaids (razgovor) 23:26, 29 mart 2019 (CET)[odgovori]
@Turaids: Laughable claim. If you believe it's a "speculation" or someone's "POV" then you're obviously completely ignorant of the 19th-century political symbolism. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 23:59, 29 mart 2019 (CET)[odgovori]
@Orijentolog: It does not matter what you or I believe. If the quote is not by the author himself, SPECIFY then, because right now it gives the false impression it is. And maybe try to also neutrally describe what's depicted in the image, which is "Russian suppression of November Uprising in Poland in 1831", instead of just slapping it with "barbaric invasion". How hard can it be? --Turaids (razgovor) 09:18, 30 mart 2019 (CET)[odgovori]
@Turaids: It can be very hard, basically impossible. There's no any "false impression," that would be your subjective view. The image show the motif of barbarian invasion, as it is properly explained and referenced in the description, and thematically fits perfectly into the article's topic. Period. A fine analogous example would be this image to illustrate the Anti-Japanese sentiment article, without mentioning its detailed political-historical context (the WW2, the Pearl Harbor attack, etc.) in the description. Political history is one thing, xenophobic representation of ethnicities as barbarian spreaders of cholera or rats is another thing. Wikipedia as an encyclopedia deals with both topics, as well as with art history and biographies, therefore the image may illustrate at least four articles with four different descriptions, depending on the article's topic. In this particular case, the description will not include anything about the 19th-century French art, nor biographical details of D. A. M. Raffet, nor the 1831 events. Only relevant text. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 04:38, 31 mart 2019 (CEST)[odgovori]
@Orijentolog: Just as your objective view is that there's no false impression, but that might as well be just you. I'm sure the image speaks for itself and everyone with a set of eyes can see for themselves that it's not a very flattering depiction of Russians, without Wikipedia expressly pointing it out. As for the 19th-century French art and the biographical details of Raffet, I agree, but mentioning the 1831 events gives context of what soured the view on Russians for Raffet and possibly other French. --Turaids (razgovor) 10:24, 31 mart 2019 (CEST)[odgovori]
