Rum je destilovano alkoholno piće dobijeno od šećerne trske (melase i soka šećerne trske) procesom fermentacije i destilacije. Piće dobijeno destilacijom se obično čuva tj. stari u hrastovim ili buradima drugog drveta. Nejveća količina ruma se proizvodi u karipskim zemljama kao i u nekoliko južnoamerčkih zemalja poput Kolumbije, Venecuele, Gvajane i Brazila. Također, postoje proizvođači ruma u Australiji, Fidžiju, Filipinima, Indiji, Mauricijusu...
Rum bez boje se najčešće koristi u spremanju koktela, dok se zlatni i tamni rum najčešće koriste kao samo piće ili se upotrebljavaju u kuhanju. Najbolji, tzv. premijum rumovi, se piju sami ili sa ledom.
Rum je dio kulturne baštine većine ostrva u zapadnom dijelu Indijskog okeana i poznato je piće britanske mornarice i gusara.
