Joel Chandler Harris (9. decembar 1845 – 3. jul 1908) bio je američki književnik, novinar i folklorist najpoznatiji kao autor priča o Uncle Remusu. Bio je rodom iz američke države Georgia gdje je neko vrijeme radio na jednoj plantaži, i tamo se upoznao sa crnim robovima i dobro upamtio njihove priče. Najveći dio života proveo je u Atlanti gdje je radio kao pridruženi urednik za Atlanta Constitution.
