Deutsch: Wappenführung seit dem 15. Jahrhundert.
Kaiser Karl IV. verlieh Creußen 1358 Markt- und Stadtrechte. Als Reichslehen ist Creußen seit 1251 in den Händen der Burggrafen von Nürnberg. Der älteste Nachweis eines Wappens ist eine Bauplastik am Rathaus aus der Zeit um 1470. Der älteste Siegelabdruck stammt aus dem Jahr 1511 mit dem Wappen der Zollern mit Helm, Decken und Brackenkopf als Helmzier. In einer farbigen Zeichnung von 1581 taucht erstmals der Krug in der Mitte des Schildes auf. Er steht zum einen redend für den Stadtnamen. Creußen bedeutet Bruch, zerbrechlich, spröde. Zum anderen weist er auf die Herstellung der Creußener Krüge von der Mitte des 16. bis zur Mitte des 18. Jahrhunderts hin. Bei der Wappenrevision von 1819 erscheint die Zollernvierung in den bayerischen Landesfarben Silber und Blau. Die Farben des Kruges wechselten häufig, auch ist der Krug wechselnd mit und ohne Henkel dargestellt.^[1]

English: The arms probably date from the middle of the 14th century. The oldest known image, however, dates from 1470 and the arms appeared on the seals of the city in 1511. Until 1581 the city only used the quartered shield of the (Hohen)Zollern family as the city was a possession of the family. To distinguish the arms the jug was added. The jug is a symbol of the pottery industry in the town, but has also been explained as a canting symbol (from Kreus, a type of beaker). The colours are the historical colours, but in the 19th century the colours were often shown wrongly. The city historically, and still sometimes, uses also the crest of the Hohenzollern family, a dog, above the arms.
