Robert Motherwell (24. januar 1915 – 16. jul 1991) bio je američki slikar, grafičar i urednik. Bio je najmlađi pripadnik tzv. Njujorške škole (kojoj je sam dio ime), a u kooj su također bili Jackson Pollock, Mark Rothko, Willem de Kooning i Philip Guston. Najpoznatije mu djelo slika Elegija Španskoj Republici.
Motherwell je od 1958. do 1971. bio u braku sa poznatom slikaricom Helen Frankenthaler, što je stvorilo "zlatni par" njujorške umjetničke scene, također poznat po raskošnim zabavama.
