Correct flag of Azerbaijan in 1918[uredi kod]

Flag of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic made by Mammad Amin Rasulzade
First meeting of the parlament of Azerbaijan Democractic Republic. Observe the crescent on the middle field of the flag
Delegation from Azerbaijan Democtatic Republic in Paris in 1919. See the photo of the flag behind
See the flag with the small crescent on the red field behind soldiers of ADR
Two flags above

The original flag of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic was with the crescent just on the red field. See the flag made by the chairman of the National Council of Azerbaijan Democratic Republic Mammad Amin Rasulzade. --Interfase (razgovor) 23:17, 21 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)

Nope. Book Pierre Charles Lux-Wurm (2001): Les drapeaux de l’Islam de Mahomet à nos jours [Flags of Islam from Mohammed to nowadays], Paris: Buchet-Chastel, 2001, ISBN 978-2-283-01813-2 clearly shows presented flag with larger crescent overlapping the upper and lower stripes of the flag. It's true there's other version with crescent just on the red field (can be found in Alfred Znamierowski (2000): Flags through the ages: A guide to the world of flags, banners, standards and ensigns, London: Southwater, ISBN 978-1-84215-267-6), but it's shifted to the hoist instead of centered like post-USSR version. Author is implicitely stating that there are differences between ADR and RA flags. Anyway, keep in mind you're not dealing with charlatan here and all of your attempts of falsifications will be removed on sight. Play on other projects. Greetings. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 23:40, 21 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
If in some book it's written that the original flag was with the big crescent it's just a mistake, or this information was based on the picture of the flag on this post stamp, where painter drew the flag with the large crescent (just to show that this is crescent). But this is just a picture of flag on the small stamp. You can see the photo of the flag on the photo of the first meeting of the Azerbaijani parlament on the 7th December 1918 - the crescent is small and on the middle field.
In the photo of Delegation from Azerbaijan Democtatic Republic in Hôtel Claridge [Avenue des Champs-Élysées] during Paris Peace Conference (1919) you can see the picture of flag behind the members of delegation.
Also here is an article about Flag of Azerbaijan (Whitney Smith. Flag Lore Of All Nations. — Millbrook Press, 2001. — С. 13. — 112 с. — ISBN 9780761317531):

AZERBAIJAN (ah-zer-bie-JAHN): Ali Bay Huseynzada, the leading nationalist of Azerbaijan, created its modern national flag. The colors of that tricolor stood for the Turkic people (blue), their lslamic faith (green), and the commitment to modernization. In the center of the flag was the traditional Muslim star and cresent. The eight points stood for the eight Turkic peoples, including the Azerbaijanis. This flag was used from 1918 to 1920, when Azerbaijan was independent, and it was revived on February 5, 1991. After the fall of the Soviet Union, independence for Azerbaijan under this flag was proclaimed on August 30, 1991.

As you see even Whitney Smith claims that the modern national flag was used from 1918 to 1920. But this variant with the large crescent, that used in articles about ADR is wrong, it is just a variant, but not the correct flag. --Interfase (razgovor) 11:29, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
We can also see the flag with the crescent on the red field behind the soldiers of ADR (See attached photo). --Interfase (razgovor) 11:33, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
In the photo of Delegation from Azerbaijan Democtatic Republic in Paris there's actually star and crescent on Russian-inspired tricolor. On all other photos there's wider crescent so it's obviously different comparing to modern one. Quite similar to the Ottoman flag (1844–1923) vs. modern Turkish flag. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 12:32, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
Russian-inspired tricolor? It is not Russian tricolor. It is Azerbaijani tricolor. The upper field is not white, This is light blue. On all other photos there's NOT wider crescent. See carefully. Crescent is small. On the photo of the soldiers with the flag, for example, we can obviously see that the flag is on the middle red field. --Interfase (razgovor) 12:48, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
Yes, Russian tricolor: white on the top, blue in the middle and red on the bottom. Use some freeware image viewer and convert to grayscale. I see fat crescent everywhere and difference from modern thin crescent (and star) is obvious. Even on photo from Paris; fat and centered toward 1:30 o'clock (North-East / 45°). Photo from museum also shows green on the top (comparing to modern blue on the top), while photo with soldiers again shows Russian tricolor with (fat) star and crescent. Your claims about "no different" flags really make very little sense. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 13:18, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
Photo from the museum doesn't show green on the top. It is just another side of the flag. Green here is on on the bottom. Crescent on the Russian tricolor is nonsence. Your convert is wrong. This is Azerbaijani tricolor (blue, red and green). Also the crescent could be a little bit fat but it is not so wide to move on other fields. --Interfase (razgovor) 13:36, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
Orijentolog, did we reach consensus that the crescent was fat at that time, but not so wide? --Interfase (razgovor) 13:51, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
It's funny to see museum is exposing flag on wrong side, some countries have even laws against it. Considering Azerbaijan was part of Russian Empire there's nothing strange that revolutionaries have painted stars and crescents over Russian tricolors. Check it on right and convert to grayscale for yourself. In literature I've found two versions: this one with wide crescent and also this one with amblem shifted to the hoist. There's no need for reaching consensus about "not being so wide" if both sources and stamps show such variant was in use. There were at least three different variants and none of them was the same as modern one. --Orijentolog (razgovor) 15:03, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
All flags above
In the museum it is not exposed the wrong side, it is another side. It is enough to turn on 3D-imagination to see that there is no wrong side. The stamp is not reliable source. It is just a picture. The painter drew the crescent larger to show that this is the crescent. But in all other photos of that period we can see that the crescent is on the middle field. --Interfase (razgovor) 15:23, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
This your flag is your imagination. This is nonsence. There was no such flag in the history, ever. There was even an official law of Azerbaijani government (in Russian) sighned in 9 November 1918, which ordered that the flag is with BLUE, RED and GREEN colours.
See also this article by Azerbaijani historian Sabuhi Ahmadov in Russian. Observe the image of the Azerbaijani flag from 9 November 1918 in this article. It is the same: blue, red and green fields with the white crescent and star on the red field. --Interfase (razgovor) 15:23, 22 ožujak-март 2014 (CET)
