Maya Angelou (Šablon:IPAEng[1]), rođena kao Marguerite Ann Johnson 4.4. 1928. u St. Louisu,[2] je američka pjesnikinja, spisateljica memoara, glumica i važna ličnost američkog pokreta za građanska prava. Godine 2001. ju je Ladies Home Journal imenovao jednom od 30 najmoćnijih žena Amerike.[3] Maya Angelou je poznata po seriji od šest autobiografskih knjiga, koje su počele sa I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, (1969)[4] a koja je nominiorana za Nacionalnu književnu nagradu i nazvana njenim magnum opusom.[5] Knjiga poezije Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Die (1971) je nominirana za Pulitzerovu nagradu.[6]
