Maya Angelou (Šablon:IPAEng), rođena kao Marguerite Ann Johnson 4.4. 1928. u St. Louisu, je američka pjesnikinja, spisateljica memoara, glumica i važna ličnost američkog pokreta za građanska prava. Godine 2001. ju je Ladies Home Journal imenovao jednom od 30 najmoćnijih žena Amerike. Maya Angelou je poznata po seriji od šest autobiografskih knjiga, koje su počele sa I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings, (1969) a koja je nominiorana za Nacionalnu književnu nagradu i nazvana njenim magnum opusom. Knjiga poezije Just Give Me a Cool Drink of Water 'Fore I Die (1971) je nominirana za Pulitzerovu nagradu.
