Gilbert Charles Stuart (rođen kao Stewart) (3. decembar 1755 – 9. jul 1828) bio je američki slikar rodom iz Rhode Islanda, poznat prije svega po svojim portretima.[2] Njegovo najpoznatije djelo je nezavršeni portret Georgea Washingtona iz 1796. godine, poznat kao The Athenaeum, koji je kasnije preradio u 130 kopija i koji je sljedeći vijek služio na novčanicama od jednog dolara[2] i raznim američkim poštanskim markama u 19. i početkom 20. vijeka.[3]
Gilbert Stuart je tokom karijere portretirao preko 1000 ličnosti, uključujući prvih predsjednika SAD.[4] Njegovo djelo se danas može vidjeti u nizu muzeja u SAD i Britaniji, prije svega u Metropolitan Museum of Art i Zbirci Frick u New Yorku, Nacionalnoj galeriji umjetnosti u Washingtonu, Nacionalnoj galeriji portreta u Londonu, Worcesterskom muzeju umjetnosti u Massachussetsu i Muzeju lijepih umjetnosti u Bostonu.[5]
