Britanci

Britanci (engleski: Britons, neformalno Brits i arhaično Britishes) je izraz kojim se u najširem smislu oznčavaju građani Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva, a u nešto užem smislu stanovnici Britanije. U još užem smislu se pod time podrazumijeva nacija čiji se identitet počeo stvarati ujedinjenem Engleske i Škotske 1707. godine. Stvaranju tog identiteta je doprinio protestantizam, ali i dugogodišnja borba Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva s Francuskom u napoleonskim ratovima. Britanska nacija, odnosno britanstvo, se smatra širim okvirom za ranije, nacionalne etničke identitete (Englezi, Škoti, Velšani, Kornvolci), a obično se vezuje uz stereotipe emocionalne rezerviranosti i pristojnosti. U posljednje vrijeme devolucija Ujedinjenog Kraljevstva i škotski separatizam britanski nacionalni identitet dovode u pitanje, dok ga istovremeno upotpunjuje priljev imigranata, uključujući one iz zemalja nekadašnjeg Britanskog Imperija koji su britanstvo prihvatili kao dio svog identiteta.
